Hirakud Dam gates opened
Sambalpur(28/07/2024): The gates of the Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district have been opened on Sunday.
This is the first floodwater release of the year.
Today, 20 gates will be opened in three phases.
According to the schedule, 7 more gates will be opened at 12:30 pm and 6 gates will be opened at 2:30 pm.
It will take 36 to 48 hours for the water from the Hirakud reservoir to reach Mundali. The opening of the dam gates is a significant event, especially during the monsoon season, as it helps to regulate the water flow and prevent flooding in the downstream areas.
