Bhubaneswar: To promote and spread the glory, culture, and tradition of Lord Jagannath, a film titled Shree Jagannathanka Nabakalebara (Nabakalebara of Shri Jagannath), produced and directed by Bini Samal under the banner of Anta Vidi, has been drawing large audiences to theatres. Odia superstar Anubhav Mohanty, along with his wife Jagrati, visited a theatre at midnight to watch the film. He watched the full movie alongside the Nabakalebara team and hundreds of Jagannath devotees.
Anubhav shared his feelings, saying it was a divine experience to see our life force, our true superstar, Lord Jagannath, on the big screen. He added that it felt like the characters in the film were personally chosen and summoned by Lord Jagannath Himself.
He emphasized that movies showcasing our land and heritage should be watched and supported collectively by everyone. The Nabakalebara team has started a tradition where all artists, from newcomers to veterans, sit together and watch such films.
While the movie is being screened in 50 theatres across Odisha, many viewers have expressed concern that its availability only in multiplexes makes it difficult for families to afford the high ticket prices. In cities like Bhubaneswar, where single-screen theatres like Maharaja, Shreya Complex, and Keshari still exist, such affordable venues can enable entire families and all sections of society to watch the film. A record of 10,800 tickets sold in 24 hours was set — with even higher sales in single-screen theatres — demonstrating the demand for accessible and affordable screening.
Many viewers have requested government intervention to ensure the film is available in such venues for broader access.
Presented by Sai Shraddha Tele Productions, Nabakalebara of Shri Jagannath is directed by Saubhagyalakshmi Jena, with producers Dillip Kumar Jena and executive producer Pranaya Jethi. The film, based on the divine glory of Lord Jagannath and featuring a star-studded cast, took nearly three years of hard work from the entire cast and technical crew.
The film stars Siddhanta, Suryamayee, Jyoti, Shibani, Shreetam, Anshuman, Pinky Pradhan, Kuna Tripathy, Ashrumochan Mohanty, Pratibha Panda, Sir Appa, Ravi Mishra, Kedar Mishra, Ratan Meher, Saheb Singh, Shankar, Priyanka Sahu, Rishi Pattnaik, and Shambhunath Khuntia, among others.
It is based on a famous play by Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award-winning playwright Shankar Tripathy, with music by Malay Mishra. Vocal performances include Ira Mohanty, Satyajit Pradhan, Antara Chakraborty, and Satyabrata Sahu. A song penned by Dr. Nirmal Nayak, "Jagatare Paibuni Emiti Thakura..." has gone viral.
Guruji Chandrabhanu Satapathy also contributed lyrics and composed two songs. The movie contains a total of seven songs, all melodious and attractive. Dance choreography was done by Bobby Islam and Jeetu Raut. Cinematography is by Dhruvananda Panda, and editing by Sukumar Mani.
All the actors have delivered brilliant performances in this cinematic portrayal of Lord Jagannath’s Nabakalebara. Director Bini Samal expressed hope that the movie will run for a long time and that viewers will gain both knowledge and entertainment from the story of Lord Jagannath.
