GRAM VIKAS, WIPRO CARES JOIN HANDS TO CELEBRATE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY IN BHUBANESWAR
Bhubaneswar(06/06/2023): Gram Vikas and Wipro Cares joined hands to celebrate World Environment Day at Phirikinali Village, Chandaka, Bhubaneswar Phirikinali village in Chandaka, Bhubaneswar, came alive on June 5, 2023, to celebrate World Environment Day.
The event saw an impressive turnout of 30 dedicated Wipro Cares volunteers who joined forces with the local community to promote environmental conservation and sustainability.
The residents of Phirikinali, predominantly Adivasis, warmly welcomed the volunteers, marking the beginning of the festivities. The event's highlight was a plantation drive focusing on fruit-bearing plants to enhance the region's green cover.
Residents from the six villages, including youth and children, actively participated in the drive, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to a greener future.
Children showcased their talents through cultural performances, underscoring the importance of environmental preservation. Gram Vikas partners with Wipro Cares in six villages in the Chandaka Gram Panchayat to implement its 'Water Secure Initiative' project.
The project will reach 470 households in the six villages to ensure household piped water supply, improve livelihood opportunities and strengthen local governance systems to enable water security for the residents.
Binoy Mishra, Senior Manager, Administration at Wipro, actively participated in the plantation drive, engaging with the community and youth to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.
His presence at the event served as an inspiration to all those involved and further strengthened the bond between Wipro, Gram Vikas, and the local community. Village Development Committee (VDC) members, Ward members, members of SHGs, residents, youth and children from the villages and employees of Wipro Cares and Gram Vikas commemorated the day through a plantation drive.
Children from the community sang songs and danced to raise awareness on conserving the environment and saving the earth from environmental disasters.
During the event, the VDC members and members from the SHGs pledged to look after the saplings planted, encouraging residents to keep their surroundings clean of plastics and minimise single-use plastics.
Gram Vikas, a community development organisation working in Odisha and Jharkhand since 1979, empowers rural poor and Adivasi communities by building their capacities, strengthening community institutions, and mobilising resources.
