JCI opposes prohibition of journalists' entry to Sankhemundi block office

Bhubaneswar(22/01/2025): The incident of putting up posters prohibiting the entry of journalists to Sankhemundi block office of Ganjam district of Odisha, has been condemned by the entire journalist community.

While this news has become a topic of discussion in the entire state, such condemnable action of the block administration and suppression of the media has been condemned in various media houses.

In this regard, the Journalist Council of India (JCI) Odisha Branch submitted a complaint letter to the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.

The Minister himself spoke to the Brahmapur Sub- Collector over the phone and inquired about the incident.

Along with this, he directed the Sankhemundi BDO and Tehsildar to immediately register an FIR in the police station.

Minister Pujari has directed the Brahmapur Sub-Collector to conduct a proper investigation of the incident and submit a report within 7 days.

After the complaint of local journalists, such a post was put up in the block premises by writing the name of the Community Development Officer.

Such posters were put up in front of all departments like video room, additional video room, engineers, MNREGA, housing scheme.

After the news came out, the posters were removed.

Although there is a lot of debate on who put up this poster, JCI has strongly condemned it.

Although no information about the incident is given in the video, the local press has expressed the opinion that the block administration did this deliberately to insult the journalist.

In protest against such incidents, members of the Journalist Council of India Odisha Branch met the minister and informed him about this and submitted a demand letter to implement the Journalist Protection Act in the state.

This initiative of the organization has been appreciated in various fields.
