Odisha to launch statewide strict vehicle checking drive from January 1
Bhubaneswar(By Abhishek Mohanty):
The Odisha Transport Department will begin a statewide strict vehicle checking campaign from January 1. The campaign aims at strengthening road safety and ensuring strict compliance with motor vehicle laws. The announcement was made by Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur.
Under the drive, stringent action will be taken against violators of Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI) rules, including those found without valid documents.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to reduce road accidents and promote responsible driving.
The Transport Commissioner urged vehicle owners to follow traffic and road safety norms, stating that adherence to rules can significantly help in preventing mishaps. He also informed that the department has held discussions with petrol pump owners and fuel dealers across the state regarding Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.
As per the instructions, petrol outlets will display information related to PUC certification, enabling motorists to easily access the service.
Thakur appealed to vehicle owners to utilise the remaining time to obtain or renew their PUC certificates before the enforcement drive comes into force.
The Transport Department has called for public cooperation to make roads safer and more disciplined.
