FEMALE HOMEGUARD ACCUSES DIG'S WIFE OF TORTURE; PETITION FILED WITH NHRC SEEKING LEGAL ACTION
Bhubaneswar (22/08/2023): A female homeguard has accused the wife of a police officer of DIG rank of physical and mental torture. The homeguard, Sairindri Sahu, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack.
Sairindri alleged that due to unbearable torture, she attempted to end her life and in the process, she lost her legs.
In her complaint, she alleged that the wife of DIG Brijesh Kumar Ray was asking her to do too much physical work and used to torture her, beat her up and threaten her to take her job away.
She didn't even allow Sairindri to take leave.
She further stated that the wife of the DIG pushed her and asked her to go and end life somewhere when she refused to wash some clothes on a particular day.
After hearing these words, Sairindri was mentally disturbed and went to the nearby railway tracks to commit suicide, she fell down while standing on the tracks due to the vibration caused by an approaching train.
Her legs got crushed under the wheels of the train. The victim, a widow living with her two daughters, said that she has informed her ordeal to the Homeguard DG in written on August 13 and no action has so far been taken.
Now, Sairindri has demanded action against Ray and his wife, Rs 5 lakh compensation and homeguard job to her elder daughter. On the other hand, North Central Range DIG Ray termed the allegations brought against his wife as baseless. Meanwhile, a petition has been filed by rights activist Jayant Das with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking legal action against the DIG and his wife.
