MONSOON ARRIVES EARLY IN KERALA
Bhubaneswar (30/05/2024): The Southwest Monsoon arrived in Kerala on Thursday and is advancing into parts of North-East India, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD).
While Monsoon normally sets in over Kerala on June 1 and advances to North-East parts of India in the next couple of days, it has arrived early this year due to favourable conditions. The early onset may be attributed to Cyclone Remal which formed over the Bay of Bengal last week. Kerala is likely to receive above-normal monsoon showers of around 6 percent more this season.
As per IMD, light to moderate rains with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds on June 1 and 2 .
