QUIT STEERING WHEEL STRIKE CALLED OFF IN ODISHA
Bhubaneswar(06/01/2024): The Quit steering wheel strike has been called off in Odisha, informed Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur on Saturday.
Thakur said, “Most of the demands including drivers’ welfare board have been fulfilled by the state government.
Considering our request, members of Odisha Drivers’ Mahasangh has called off the protest.
Discussion regarding the new law on ‘Hit and Run’ cases is underway between the drivers and the Centre.” As a part of the strike which began all over India from Thursday against the new law on ‘Hit and Run’ cases, the members of Odisha Drivers’ Mahasangh joined it after handing over their vehicles to their respective owners.
More than two lakh drivers joined the strike in several locations across Odisha.
As a result of the protest, around 70 thousand litres of milk supply by Odisha Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (OMFED) to the dairy plants to Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Keonjhar was affected.
As the buses stayed off the roads, passengers waiting at the Netaji Bus Terminal in Cuttack faced a lot of difficulties in their daily travel .
