Odisha Crime Branch tags Rajkanika minor assault case as “Red Flag”; DG to head investigation
Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): The alleged sexual assault of a Class 7 student at Rajkanika in Kendrapara district has been designated a “Red Flag” case by the Odisha Crime Branch, highlighting the seriousness and sensitivity of the matter.
Officials stated that the probe will be conducted under the direct supervision of the Director General (DG) of the Crime Branch, ensuring high-level oversight and transparency in the investigation.
To expedite the judicial process, a Special Public Prosecutor (PP) will be appointed to handle the case and facilitate a fast-tracked trial.
The incident involving a student of a private English-medium school was reported on Saturday within the jurisdiction of Rajkanika police station.
As part of the ongoing investigation, three teachers and a female staff member of the school have been taken into custody for questioning.
Police teams have visited the survivor’s residence to collect further evidence.
The case has led to widespread concern and anger in the locality, with residents demanding stringent action against those responsible.
The Crime Branch has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a thorough probe and timely justice, adding that the “Red Flag” status will guarantee close monitoring while prioritising the minor’s safety and rights.
