Student Seed Conservator Programme Launched at Baliapal: Over 200 Students Collect Indigenous Seeds on Day One

Balasore, 26/9 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty):
With the joint support of Yuba Bikash and Parivesh Foundation, the Student Seed Conservator Programme has been launched at Baliapal to create awareness among school and college students about toxin-free organic farming and to groom them as seed conservators.

On the first day, students of +2 First Year Arts of Krushnachandra Pipili College, Jagai, collected indigenous seeds provided by SAMBHAV, a Nayagarh-based organisation. The programme was inaugurated by College Principal Dr. Manasi Sahu and Yuba Bikash founder Gobinda Dalai.

The chief guest, Aravind Behera, President of Bagha Jatin Smruti Parishad, praised the effort, saying that initiating seed conservation and traditional farming practices at the school and college level was commendable. He congratulated both Parivesh Foundation and Yuba Bikash for this initiative. Dr. Sahu further shared that in the coming days, a seed bank will be developed in the college by the students themselves.

During an interactive session with the students, Mr. Dalai highlighted that this is the first such initiative in Balasore district. At the end of the session, more than 200 students collected native seeds. The organisers announced that in the near future, students will cultivate toxin-free vegetables and fruits on the college campus. Seeds from this produce will be collected and distributed among students of neighbouring colleges, said Parivesh Foundation coordinator Bhagyalaxmi Raut.
