Tigress Jamuna brought from Maharashtra released to core areas of Similipal
Baripada (09/11/2024): Tigress Jamuna, which was brought from Taboda-Andheri Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra and was kept in a soft enclosure, was released to the core areas of the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday. The two-and-half-year-old tigress was brought from Maharashtra on October 28.
The animal was released into a soft enclosure spanning around two hectares in the core area of the Tiger Reserve the following day. The tigress made its first hunt on October 31 and was in good health.
The inter-state translocation project aims to infuse a fresh gene pool in Similipal.
The translocation of the tigress is being carried out with the permission of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Recently, a special team from the wildlife wing of Odisha Forest Department comprising 10 members visited Maharashtra to translocate another tigress from Tadoba- Andheri Tiger Reserve to Similipal Tiger Reserve.
