Puri municipality to become municipal corporation: CM

Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): The Odisha government has decided to upgrade Puri municipality to a municipal corporation, announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday.

The upgradation process will commence from July 5, 2025.

The Chief Minister said, "Lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad visit Puri to have darshan of Lord Jagannath. It is the duty of the state government to provide all basic facilities to the devotees and better civic amenities to the residents of Puri town. Keeping all these aspects in view, the government has decided to upgrade Puri municipality to a municipal corporation."

The CM also announced that a world-class museum and library will be established in Puri to promote Jagannath culture. 

All the localities of Puri town and some gram panchayats of its surrounding areas will be included in the new municipal corporation.
