Girijakumar Baliar Singh Wins Sahitya Akademi Award 2025 for Odia Poetry Collection 'Padapurana'

Balasore, 26/3 :(Krushna Kumar Mohanty) : Eminent Odia poet Girijakumar Baliar Singh has been selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award 2025 in the Odia language category for his poetry collection 'Padapurana'.

Born on December 9, 1954, in Bajapur village of Khordha district, Odisha, Singh completed his postgraduate degree in Odia from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. He initially worked as a college lecturer before leaving the profession to devote himself more fully to literary pursuits.

Currently residing at Kalyani Nagar in Cuttack, Singh runs his own publishing house titled Kahani. A prolific writer, he has authored more than fourteen books across different literary forms. In recognition of his literary contribution, he was earlier honoured with the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 2006.

The Sahitya Akademi announced its annual awards for 24 Indian languages on Monday, recognising outstanding literary works published in the respective languages. Baliar Singh’s 'Padapurana' has been selected for its poetic depth and literary distinction.

The award carries an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a cash prize of ₹1,00,000. The awards will be formally presented at a special ceremony scheduled to be held on March 31, 2026, in New Delhi.

The Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters under the Ministry of Culture, presents these awards annually to honour distinguished literary works in various genres across the languages recognised by the institution.
