PECUC HOLDS STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP FOR ECOSAVERS YOUTH NETWORK ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Bhubaneswar(05/10/2023): People's Cultural Centre (PECUC) organised a two-day state-level workshop on environmental protection for members of the Ecosavers youth network from September 30 to October 1, held at YVDSS, Bhubaneswar.
Over 50 youth delegates from various parts of the state participated in the workshop.
During the inaugural session, Chhabi Mahali, Member of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR), commended the efforts of the youth network in protecting the environment.
She emphasised the importance of the youth's actions in inspiring and leading the way for future generations. Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Secretary of PECUC, outlined the objectives of the programme and encouraged the ECOSAVERs Youth Network members to raise awareness among youth about their responsibility towards addressing climate change and engaging in environmental protection initiatives.
He stressed the importance of collective efforts in building a healthier environment.
Anuradha Mohanty, Executive Director of PECUC, facilitated the two-days workshop and urged youth to take a leadership role in environmental protection within their respective areas and create innovative models of actions to protect environment for next generation. During the workshop, youth representatives from different districts shared their success stories from the previous year.
These included activities such as tree planting, construction of check dams to protect, regenerate streams and check soil erosion, enhance groundwater level, village cleaning initiatives, plastic waste management, drainage cleaning, pond and tube well maintenance, establishment of water kiosks during the summer, clean-up drives at historic sites, waste management, organic agriculture ,horticulture and kitchen, public awareness campaigns against tobacco consumption, promotion of local food.
These small-scale initiatives not only contribute positively to the environment but also serve as inspiration for other young people. The workshop included training sessions, with Dr.Ashok Kumar Sahu providing leadership development training and environmentalist Deepak Kumar Mishra discussing climate change and the role of youth.
During the workshop, a 15-member state-level core team of the Ecosavers Youth Network was elected, with Stutiranjan Pradhan as President and Jyitaranjan Mahanta and Truptimayee Behera as Vice Presidents.
