Face to Face w/ Manorama Biswal Mohapatra

1.
SM-How did you get attracted to literature?

MBM-A creative artist never plans before creating. Art  happens suddenly in a deep, spontaneous and creative moment. The inspiration of my father,   my upbringing  and  our family library were the motivating force behind my writing.

2.SM-Why did you decide to write an autobiography?

MBM-The Magical Days Of My Childhood"carries the cherished moments of my childhood. The charm of my childhood still captivates my poetic spirit. The memorable moments and the unforgettable experience are  embedded in my soul . Yet, this creation is not my  complete autobiography...

3.SM-Where do you place this autobiography in the rich literature of Odisha?

MBM-Time is the great evaluator. So only time can measure the enchanting moments of my childhood.
" In the vast world, time moves slowly and continuously."

4.SM-Well, Mam, you have written prose, poetry , essays and children's literature . I feel you love to express yourself through the form of poetry? What is your favourite genre?
MBM-Poetry has been deeply integrated into my life. As a lecturer in the Department of Odia, I have created several research -based prose works so far. Yet, what appeals to me is the simplicity and purity of Children's Literature which connects deeply to my heart.
The real charm  in poetry writing that matters to me is the love and appreciation that I get from my readers. My very first poem was published in Minabazar of Prajatantra during my seventh grade.
I never see any  difference between poetry and life. I do not prefer duplicity in poetic expression.

 5. SM -Lastly, do you feel that your writings have been properly evaluated in Odisha?
MBM-Mostly  all the Odia Poems have greater heights compared to the other poems of different languages. Awards are  never the real yardstick to measure the calibre of a poet. My poems are already placed deeply in the hearts of my readers and they can relate to my work. To me, this is the truest measure of my work and it is what I value the  most.
