RS 25000 FINE IMPOSED ON OWNER OF PHOTOCOPY SHOP FOR CHARGING RS 3 EXTRA
Sambalpur (27/09/2023): The Sambalpur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the owner of a photocopy shop for charging Rs 3 extra from a person as a photocopy charge. The Commission asked the shop owner to return the excess money of Rs 3. On April 28, 2023, Prafulla Kumar Dash, a journalist, had gone to Goyal Printing Zone at Budharaja in Sambalpur district to photocopy a document.
He had given Rs 5 and asked the shopkeeper to return Rs 3 as the rate of the photocopy was Rs 2 per copy.
The shop owner refused to return the money abused the customer.
After repeated requests, the person sitting on the owner's chair returned Rs 5 and insulted him by saying, "I donated the money to the beggar." Later, Dash moved the Consumer Forum against Goyal Printing Zone.
The Forum directed the shop owner to refund Rs 3 towards excess money received from the complainant and pay Rs 25,000 as compensation towards mental agony and harassment within 30 days from the date of the order, failing which the amount will carry nine percent interest per annum till realization to the complainant.
