Wipro Cares, Gram Vikas join forces for plantation drive in Chandaka
Bhubaneswar (30/07/2024): In a significant step towards environmental sustainability and community empowerment, Wipro Cares, in collaboration with Gram Vikas and the community members of Krushna Nagar, Ambapadia, conducted a successful plantation drive recently.
The event, held at Krushna Nagar, Ambapadia village, witnessed active participation from over 150 community members, alongside 34 dedicated Wipro volunteers. The plantation drive was graced by prominent figures including Binoy Mishra, Senior Manager of Administration at Wipro Technologies, and senior management team members such as Manmath Mishra, Anil Mishra, Sushant Senapati, and Pratyush Mohapatra.
Representing Gram Vikas, Pratap Panda, Programme Manager for Livelihoods and Sanitation & Health, Sukanta Bhattacharya, Strategic Lead for Performance, and Sangita Patra, Programme Manager for Documentation & Communications and Human Resources, also participated. This initiative is part of the larger "Water Secure Initiative," a collaborative project between Wipro Cares and Gram Vikas aimed at constructing village-level water and sanitation infrastructure.
The project also seeks to enhance women's leadership capacities in socio-economic aspects to ensure sustainable conservation of natural resources and improve livelihoods.
Implemented across six villages in the Chandaka area, the project targets the plantation of 10 varieties of fruit-bearing plants, totaling 2,020 plants across 12 acres of land.
The primary goal of this initiative is water conservation, with the added benefit of supporting community livelihoods in the future. The event was further supported by the Village Development Committee, with notable participation from Bapi Singh, President of Ambapadia, Durga Prasad Sahoo, Forest Ranger of Chandaka, and Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Sarpanch of Daruthenga.
The day commenced with a heartfelt welcome song performed by children from Ambapadia village, followed by speeches from the esteemed panel members, a cultural event, and concluded with the plantation activities. This plantation drive underscores the collective effort of Wipro Cares, Gram Vikas, and the local community towards building a greener, more sustainable future.
It reflects the commitment of these organizations to environmental conservation and community development, fostering a collaborative spirit for a better tomorrow. Gram Vikas, a community development organisation working in Odisha and Jharkhand since 1979, empowers rural poor and Adivasi communities by building their capacities, strengthening community institutions, and mobilising resources.
