A Journey of Hope: Sundargarh Unites to Support Cancer Patient Rajesh Kumar Swain

Sundargarh, Odisha | June 16, 2025 – In an inspiring show of solidarity, the people of Sundargarh have once again proven that compassion and community spirit are the strongest medicines in times of crisis. Rajesh Kumar Swain, a resident of Sankara village, recently diagnosed with oral cancer, found himself battling not just a life-threatening disease, but also the crushing burden of financial hardship.
The sole breadwinner of his family, Rajesh lives with his elderly mother, wife, and a young son. With treatment costs looming and resources scarce, the future seemed uncertain. But what followed was a heartwarming testament to the power of collective goodwill.
Responding swiftly to the urgent need, the Sundargarh District Administration, in collaboration with the CDM & PHO office, arranged for the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Ambulance to ensure Rajesh's safe transfer to Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute in Cuttack, where he will receive the specialized care he requires.
This life-saving intervention was made possible by a network of support:
Local philanthropic individuals and organizations stepped in with financial aid.
Community leaders such as Jaya Narayan Tripathy and Benudhar Tandia stood by the family, offering both logistical and emotional support.
Concerned citizens and volunteers lent their time and presence, reminding us that empathy can move mountains.
The moment Rajesh was escorted to the ambulance was captured as more than just a photo opportunity—it became a symbol of Sundargarh’s humanity in action.
“This is not just about medical treatment. This is about restoring faith, preserving dignity, and showing that in Sundargarh, no one fights alone,” said one of the community volunteers.
This event is a clarion call to all residents: continue the chain of compassion. Contributions, whether financial or simply in time and care, can change the trajectory of someone’s life.
In a world often clouded by indifference, Sundargarh shines bright—a place where hearts beat for one another, where help is not a choice but a way of life.
Let this be a reminder: real heroes don’t wear capes—they hold hands, wipe tears, and walk beside those in pain.
