Bhubaneswar(By Abhishek Mohanty): BJD workers clashed with police as they attempted to gherao the Lok Seva Bhavan, demanding justice for the deceased Fakir Mohan College student.
Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters.
The party workers demanded a judicial inquiry into the student's death and Rs 2 crore compensation for the family.
The protest turned violent as they tried to breach the barricades, leading to a confrontation with police.
Hundreds of agitators were picked up by police for the violent protest.
A number of party activists and police personnel sustained injuries.
The BJD also observed an eight-hour (6 AM to 2 PM) bandh in Balasore district over the same issue.
Owing to the strike, shops, markets, offices remained shut and vehicles stayed off the roads.
