CHANDRAYAN 3 TO MAKE HISTORIC SOFT LANDING THIS EVENING HOPEFULLY

New Delhi( 23/08/2023): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing for the CHANDRAYAN 3 lunar landing today at approximately 6:04 pm IST after a 40-day long journey from Sathish Dhawan Space Centre Sriharikota.
The Vikram Lander is set to become the first mission to land on the southern pole of the moon after the Russian Luna 25 attempt to reach the south pole before it crashed unfortunately.
Chandrayaan 3 is a follow up to Chandrayaan 2 (2019) which had the same goal as Chandrayaan 3 and Luna 25.
What will happen if ISRO's Chandrayaan 3 successfully lands on the south pole of the moon? When this happens, India will join as the 4th country to complete it's mission to land on the moon joining USA(Neil Armstrong in 1969), the Soviet Union ( Luna 24 in 1976) and China (Chang'e 3 in 2013).
It will also be the first in race to reach the south pole which could give India's space ambitions another breakthrough and expand our knowledge of lunar water ice, that is potentially one of the most valuable resources of the moon.
If you can remember, ISRO's Chandrayaan 1 was the one that detected the presence of traces of water molecules on moon's surface on its expedition in 2009.
