CLIMATE CHANGE WORKSHOP FOR TELUGU JOURNALISTS AT AMERICAN CORNER IN ANDHRA UNIVERSITY
Vishakhapatnam(14/11/2023): The US Consulate General Hyderabad, in collaboration with VIEWS, an NGO based in Odisha, organized the 6th Climate Change Workshop for journalists working in regional media at the American Corner, Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam on Tuesday. The regional workshop commenced with an inaugural speech by S.Bheema Rao, Executive Director of VIEWS, along with JV Ratnam and Janardhan Rao, a senior journalist from the Indian Express.
JV Ratnam emphasized the global significance of climate change, underscoring the importance of local action.
Janardhan Rao, a senior journalist, stressed the need to highlight the efforts of change makers working on climate change issues through local actions. The two-day workshop aimed to equip Telugu media journalists with the tools and concepts necessary to write analytical and research-based stories on climate change.
The objective is to enhance media coverage of climate change and its impact on society.
A total of 30 participants from reputed media organizations in Andhra Pradesh will benefit from the training workshop.
The journalists trained by esteemed resource persons and leading journalists in the field through a multi-session workshop covering various aspects of climate change, including climate change fact-checking, disaster risk management and climate change, and audience engagement. Prof.K.Veerabhadram, Adjunct Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, Andhra University, conducted a session on "Changing Weather: Building Awareness among People." Srinivasa Rajamani, Programme Director, SRU Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, led a session on "Climate Change and Disaster Management." Speaking on the occasion, S.Bheema Rao, Executive Director of VIEWS India, stated, “The climate change workshop empowers journalists in climate change reporting and helps them acquire tools and techniques for more accurate and transparent reporting.
The trained journalists from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have covered various climate change articles, highlighting issues at the local level for a noble cause.
