Play ‘Kambala’ Staged at ‘Srasta’ Auditorium by Odia Bhasa Bikash Andolan (OBBA)

Balasore, 06/08 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty):
The Odia Bhasa Bikash Andolan (OBBA) staged the play Kambala, written by dramatist Hemendra Mahapatra, at the Srasta Natyalaya Auditorium in Makalpur. In this play, the “Kambala” (blanket) is portrayed as a symbolic connection between Fakir Mohan Senapati and Gangadhar Meher.
It is said that during one of his visits to Fakir Mohan’s house, Gangadhar Meher had left behind his blanket in Balasore. A hundred years later, the activists of the Odia Bhasa Bikash Andolan carry that symbolic blanket of language and relationship to Barpali.
The storyline is beautifully crafted around this theme. The play was directed by Niranjan Bharat, with musical presentation by Kalyani Nanda. The actors Dr. Laxmikant Tripathy, Dr. Sarangadhar Tripathy, Prabhakar Sahu, Pandit Sanjaya Kumar Panda, Joomarnath Patra, and Prafulla Kumar Das delivered remarkable performances.
A ceremonial dance was presented on stage by Subrata Mohanty, Snigdha Samantaray, Shantilata Panda, Mamata Das, Triptiarani Patra, Krushna Pradhan, and Basanti Deo to mark the opening of the performance.
Senior members of the organization—Sharata Kumar Mahapatra, Tapan Ray, Deepak Bose, Dr. Shirish Chandra Jena, Dr. Ramakanta Nayak, Dr. Ratnakar Singh, Prasanna Kumar Das, Jyotsna Ray, Geetanjali Satapathy, and Archana Nandy—offered floral tributes to Lord Jagannatha and sought His blessings before the play began.
The play was well-received and thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
