Balasore, 06/08 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): Amid rising incidents of sexual assault, harassment, and violence against girl students and women in Odisha, the silence of the state government has sparked widespread outrage. In protest, and as per the direction of BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik, the Biju Yuva Chhatra Janata Dal (BYCJD) has been conducting a state-wide campaign from August 1 to August 8, submitting memoranda to the Director General of Police (DGP).

As part of this program, the Balasore unit of BYCJD today submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Balasore, demanding urgent action.

The memorandum highlights that within just one year of the BJP-led government's rule, cases of misconduct, sexual assault, and violence against women have alarmingly increased while the administration remains a passive spectator. Referring to several recent cases — including the gang rape of a student at Gopalpur Beach College, the suicide of a girl from Fakir Mohan College, and the incident in Balanga, Puri district, where a minor girl was burnt alive — the memorandum demands exemplary punishment for the culprits.

It also calls for improved student safety in educational institutions, the formation of a dedicated women's safety team, and independent patrolling arrangements at tourist spots across the state.

Students from Fakir Mohan College and other institutions, along with BYCJD leaders, handed over the written memorandum to the police.

Prominent participants in the rally included:
Student President Simon Das Mahapatra, Youth President Tapas Parida, State Executive Youth President Shubhendu Mangaraj, State Youth General Secretary Tapas Panigrahi, State Student General Secretaries Omprakash Mahapatra, Shubham Sai Mahapatra, State Youth Secretary Jayanti Dutta, State Student General Secretary Simon Samal, District Student Leader Sushil Panda, Town Student Executive President Chinmay Mohanty, FM College Student Leader Swastik Samanta, Student Leaders Jagadish Acharya, Shubham Nayak, Jeevan Sangram Mishra, Gajendra Nayak, Harish Jena, Sheikh Burhan, Omkar Nayak, Harsh Khandelwal, Jakab Singh, and more than a hundred students who actively participated in the event.
