Surprise Drive Against Sale of Unapproved Packaged Drinking Water at Kharagpur Division Stations

Balasore, Sept 24: (Krushna Kumar Mohanty)In a proactive step to ensure passenger safety and compliance with railway regulations, the Commercial Department of Kharagpur Division conducted a surprise inspection at Ramrajatala and Santragachi stations.

During the inspection, officials detected and seized unapproved packaged drinking water (PDW) being sold on the platforms. The confiscated stock consisted of local and unverified brands that are not authorized for sale on railway premises. Vendors involved in the sale were penalized as per the rules and guidelines.

The drive focused on preventing the sale of unauthorized and potentially unsafe packaged water, ensuring adherence to Indian Railways’ regulations for licensed commercial activities, and spreading awareness among vendors about the necessity of selling only approved and verified products.

Officials said the initiative reflects Kharagpur Division’s commitment to passenger safety, hygiene, and strict regulatory enforcement. Indian Railways reiterated that monitoring of commercial activities will continue across stations to safeguard the interests of rail users.
