First Flood of the Year in Subarnarekha River: MLA Subasini Jena Assesses Situation with On-Ground Visit

Balasore, 21/6 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): The first flood of the year in the Subarnarekha River has led to a rise in water levels, causing floodwaters to enter several riverside villages under Baliaapal Block. Many villages are now waterlogged and a few have become completely cut off from the outside world.

Taking serious note of the situation, local MLA Subasini Jena spent the entire day on Saturday visiting the flood-affected areas. She personally assessed the conditions in riverside villages including Choudhurikud, Chadabastakalrui, and Panchurukhi in Madhupura Panchayat; Badapal, Sardar Sahi, and Dattasahi in Asti Panchayat; Manpur, Palapada, and Chadapalapada in Nikhira Panchayat; Malikud in Ghantua Panchayat; Lakapala and Jamakunda in Jamakunda Panchayat; and Sungamuhan in Baliaapal Panchayat. She interacted with the local residents and listened to their concerns, urging the district administration to take immediate action.
A particularly distressing incident was reported near the Jamakunda Lock, where a youth from Ikadapala village under Bishnupur Panchayat went missing after being swept away by floodwaters while trying to cross the road. Upon receiving the news, MLA Jena rushed to the spot and contacted the district authorities to initiate search and rescue efforts.
Accompanying the MLA were several local leaders and officials, including BJD Baliaapal Block President Govinda Prasad Das, Zilla Parishad Member Nishakar Sethy, Benudhar Jena, Zilla Parishad Representative Sunil Jena, youth leader Saumyadeep Chakraborty, Jagabandhu Jena, senior leader Bhaskar Chandra Sahu, Manmath Manik, Aditya Das Adhikari, Harekrushna Jena, Ganesh Barik, Basanta Mohanty, Manmath Barik, and Imtiaz Saha, among others. All participated in the field visit to the flood-hit areas.
