FIVE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH CREDIT CARD FRAUD TO THE TUNE OF RS 8 CRORE
Bhubaneswar (23/12/2023): The Cyber police in Bhubaneswar arrested five persons including some billing staff of private hospitals in connection with credit card fraud to the tune of Rs 8 crore.
The gang was busted on the basis of a complaint filed by one Rakesh Kumar on December 17, 2023.
In his complaint, Rakesh alleged that one credit card had been issued in his name without his knowledge.
Transactions made on the credit cards were showing his name.
The matter came to the light after the complainant came to know that his CIBIL Score was poor. Responding to his complaint, the Cyber Police started investigation and nabbed one Biju Tripathi of Pipili in Puri district for his alleged involvement in the case. The police recovered 450 credit and debit cards, Rs 7 lakh cash, passbooks, checkbooks and PoS from his possession. According to Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh, Biju used to get credit cards issued in the name of different persons.
With the help of some billing agents at various private hospitals, he used to swipe the credit cards and take cash in lieu of the payment.
As there is a window period of 30 to 40 days for repayment, Biju was using the cash collected from hospitals for other purposes.
Some money was being given to billing agents and the actual credit card owners as well.
From further investigation it was found that credit cards were issued by furnishing fake documents in banks.
One credit card belongs to Rakesh.
