Jajpur (06/04/2024): Lakhs of devotees took holy dip in river Baitarani in Jajpur district on Saturday to observe the Maha Baruni Snana. Braving the scorching heat, people in large numbers including pilgrims from across Odisha congregated near Dasaswamedha ghat in river Baitarani to take holy bath and offer 'pinda' to their forefathers as a part of the Maha Baruni Snana. The holy bath started from 6:09 am and continued till 12:57 pm. It is believed that offering 'pinda' to forefathers on the occasion of Baruni Mela brings Moksha (liberation) for them and taking Baruni Snana (mass bath) at Baitarani purge devotees from all sins and diseases. Devotees also took holy dip at the convergence of river Rushikulya and Badanadi near Aska in Ganjam district.
