Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): Normalcy is gradually returning to Odisha’s Malkangiri district following recent violence and vandalism, District Collector Somesh Upadhyay said on Saturday. While prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) have been revoked, the district administration has extended the internet shutdown for another 36 hours, till 12 noon on Monday.

The internet restriction was continued to prevent the spread of rumours and to ensure peace and stability in the area. Police have arrested six persons in connection with the violence.

The unrest had erupted in MV-26 village following a murder, triggering incidents of arson and vandalism that forced several residents to flee.

A peace committee meeting involving representatives of both sides was held, and the parties reached an amicable resolution. The administration will continue dialogue with the peace committee to ensure lasting peace in the district.
