MAN, WOMAN KILLED IN ELEPHANT ATTACK; ANGRY LOCALS BLOCK ROAD
Angul(24/08/2023): A man and a woman were killed after being attacked by an elephant at Pateli village under Angul forest division on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Shankar Biswal and Jhili Majhi.
The duo came face-to-face with the wild animal while they had gone out for some work in the dawn.
Following the death of the two persons on spot, a group of angry locals blocked road by burning tyres.
They demanded compensation for the family of the deceased and appropriate steps by the forest department to prevent elephant attacks. The agitators alleged that pachyderms have killed at least 15 people and destroyed standing crops on acres of land in the last few months.
