Plan to reopen Gundicha Temple from December 1 put on hold

The plan to reopen Puri’s Gundicha Temple to devotees on December 1 has been temporarily put on hold. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) decided to defer the reopening after receiving urgent reports from the Additional Chief Engineer and Senior Supervisor.

A recent inspection, conducted as per the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee’s recommendations, revealed that repair and conservation work inside the temple is still incomplete. 

Major pending tasks include installing steel beams, completing Khondolite stone flooring, and other structural work.

This apart, the temple gardens and surrounding areas need cleaning and development works, further contributing to the delay.
