Sundargarh, October 2024: In the absence of Sri Jogesh Kumar Singh, the Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Sundargarh, a delegation led by his representative, Sri Jaya Narayan Tripathy, along with senior BJD leaders, submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Odisha, Smt. Aswathy S, at Sadbhabana Bhawan, Sundargarh.
The memorandum highlights the need for urgent improvements at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sundargarh, which recently commenced indoor services in the Medicine Ward on October 2, 2024. While this development has been greatly appreciated, the delegation has called for the immediate extension of full-fledged services in critical departments such as Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. These departments, according to the memorandum, are essential to meeting the healthcare needs of the region and reducing the inconvenience faced by patients who are forced to travel to distant hospitals for treatment.
Additionally, the delegation raised concerns over non-functional medical equipment and machines that are vital for high-quality healthcare services. The memorandum requests the immediate repair and operation of these machines, to fully utilize the hospital's potential.
A further request was made for the appointment of specialised doctors, particularly a cardiologist and a neurologist, whose services are deemed essential for treating high-risk and complex medical conditions that cannot be managed by general practitioners alone.
Concerns were also voiced regarding the inaccessibility of the Superintendent of Medical College and Hospital , which has reportedly caused frustration among patients seeking assistance. The delegation requested the Health and Family Welfare Department to take appropriate measures to ensure better communication and responsiveness from hospital administration towards the public.
The submission of this memorandum reflects the ongoing efforts of the MLA and local leaders to improve healthcare infrastructure in Sundargarh, and it is hoped that the state government will take swift action to address these concerns for the benefit of the people.
