Pond Restoration Drive Begins in Balasore City by Municipality and Yuva Vikash Organisation

Balasore, 15/11 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): A joint pond-cleaning initiative has been launched at the Chandan Pond near Chandamari Padia by Parivesh Foundation and Yuva Vikash. Volunteers from Balasore Municipality, local Swachh Sathi workers, councillors, residents and members of Yuva Vikash took part in the drive. After Kartika Purnima, large amounts of thermocol, household plastic waste, temple offerings, liquor bottles and especially betel waste had polluted and choked the pond. Volunteers cleaned the pond and also sensitised residents about adopting environment-friendly practices. Responding to local requests, the group plans to clean the Gosala Pond next Sunday.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Bhagiratha Behera, Professor of Economics at IIT Kharagpur. He stated that with continued public participation, similar drives would be carried out across Balasore city.
