Supriya Panda to Receive ‘Jagadish Katha Samman’; Shantanu Kumar Nayak Named for ‘Jagadish Yuva Samman’

Baleswar, February 6:( Krushna Kumar Mohanty): The Jagadish Mahanty Trust, instituted in memory of trendsetter of Odia short fiction Jagadish Mahanty, has announced the recipients of its prestigious awards for the year 2026. Eminent short story According to a press release, writer and novelist Supriya Panda has been selected for the ‘Jagadish Katha Samman’. The award carries a citation, a plaque, a memento, and a cash prize of ₹10,000. As well, the ‘Jagadish Yuva Samman’, instituted to encourage young short story writers, will be conferred this year on Shantanu Kumar Nayak. He will receive a cash prize of ₹5,000.

The Jagadish Katha Samman, being awarded since 2014, has earlier been conferred on noted writers such as Prakash Mahapatra, Sadananda Tripathy, Rajanikanta Mahanty, Shyamaprasad Choudhury, Paresh Pattanaik, Ajay Swain, Nibarana Jena, Bhima Prusty, Pushpanjali Nayak, Debabrata Madanray, and Pabitra Panigrahi.

Similarly, the Jagadish Yuva Samman has previously been awarded to Amaresh Biswal, Swagatika Swain, Netaji Abhinandan, Biraja Rautaray, Rajendra Kumar Raul, Shakti Mahanty, Maniram Jena, Sushil Pradhan, Pragyan Prabartika Dash, and Sunanda Pradhan.

The awards will be presented during the ‘Jagadish Jayanti’ celebration scheduled to be held on February 17 evening at Buddha Mandir, Bhubaneswar. Eminent critic and short story writer Professor Kailash Pattanaik and senior fiction writer Satya Mishra will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

The Trust’s Chairperson Dr. Sarojini Sahoo and Secretary Saroj Bala have appealed to admirers of Jagadish Mahanty and lovers of literature to attend the programme in large numbers.
