President Droupadi Murmu strengthens bilateral ties during landmark visit to Slovakia
Bratislava(11/04/2025): President of India Droupadi Murmu, embarked on a four-day visit to Portugal and Slovakia.
During the second leg of her journey, she arrived in Bratislava, Slovakia on April 9th, where she was warmly received by the President of the Slovak Republic, H.E.Peter Pellegrini, at the Presidential Palace.
A traditional Slovak welcome was extended to her with bread and salt presented by a couple in folk attire, followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour. President Murmu held a one-on-one meeting with President Pellegrini, followed by delegation-level talks.
The discussions covered a broad range of bilateral issues and shared global concerns.
During the meeting, both leaders witnessed the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs): one between the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) of India and the Slovak Business Agency to promote cooperation in the field of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and another between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) and the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Following these meetings, President Murmu interacted with the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, H.E.
Mr.
Richard Raši.
The two leaders reaffirmed the high priority India attaches to its historic and friendly relations with Slovakia.
The President also met with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, H.E.
Robert Fico, where they discussed the close and longstanding ties between the two nations. At the India-Slovakia Business Forum, President Murmu highlighted India’s emergence as one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world.
She encouraged Slovak business leaders to seize the opportunities arising from India's growth and translate them into meaningful and mutually beneficial partnerships.
In the city of Nitra, President Murmu was conferred with an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) by Constantine the Philosopher University, recognizing her contributions and leadership. Concluding her visit, the President addressed the Indian diaspora in Bratislava at a programme organized by the Indian Ambassador to Slovakia.
She expressed her appreciation for the growing cultural integration between India and Slovakia, noting the increasing popularity of Indian traditions, cuisine, Ayurveda, and Yoga.
She thanked the Indian community for their vital role in developing deeper cultural and social connections between the two nations.
