Rising sea levels poses threat for Odisha's coastal regions; saltwater breaches large portion of Siali beach

Bhubaneswar (By Abhishek Mohanty): The coastal districts of Odisha are facing a significant threat due to rising sea levels. The sea has been encroaching upon the shore, displacing residents and damaging infrastructure.
The districts of Puri, Ganjam, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur face greater risk due to this increase in sea level.
The Siali beach in Jagatsinghpur district is experiencing severe erosion, with tidal waves washing away parts of the beach and threatening tourist attractions.
The saltwater has breached a large portion of Siali sea beach.
The sea has encroached up to 500 metre into the residential areas.
The sea water has entered the land and caused widespread damage to nearby casuarina forests.
The residents are demanding a long-term solution to prevent future flooding and damage as this is a recurring issue.
