Sambalpuri Din Celebration – A Tribute to Our Cultural Roots

On August 1st, people across western Odisha came together to celebrate Sambalpuri Din, a proud occasion that pays homage to our vibrant Sambalpuri culture, language, art, and heritage. This day is not just a date—it’s an emotion that connects us to our soil, our people, and our identity.
Here in Sundargarh, the celebration was truly special. The atmosphere was filled with the sound of traditional Dalkhai, Rasarkeli, and Karma songs, vibrant dances, and a wave of pride in our Sambalpuri attire—from sarees and phatkis to handwoven shirts and turbans.
Local artists mesmerized the audience, showcasing the unmatched beauty of our folk culture.
Weavers and craftsmen were recognized for their immense contribution in keeping our textile traditions alive.
Students and youth groups participated enthusiastically, reflecting the growing interest in preserving and promoting our roots.
Sambalpuri Din is celebrated not only in Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada, but also in cities like Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, and even outside Odisha, by Odia communities living abroad.
This day is a reminder that modernity and tradition can walk hand in hand. If we wish to march forward, we must carry our roots with pride.
Let’s continue to protect, promote, and pass on the legacy of Sambalpuri culture to the generations ahead.
