Scrub Typhus claims 3 lives in a week in Bargarh: CDMO
Bhubaneswar (11/09/2024): At least three people have died in one week in Bargarh district in Odisha due to Scrub Typhus infection, informed Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Nirupama Sarangi on Wednesday. Sarangi said, "So far 20 persons had come for tests and three were detected positive for Scrub Typhus.
All of them are undergoing treatment at home and their condition is stable.
However, an investigation was done and it was found that three persons died of Scrub Typhus at private clinics.
We had conducted an investigation and found that three persons have died due to Scrub Typhus." A meeting has been convened and massive public awareness will be created. Scrub Typhus is a zoonotic disease caused by bites of larval mites (chiggers). The most common symptoms of this disease include fever, headache, body ache and scrabs or lesions at the place of the bite, she added. According to Sarangi, usually, the bite marks go away in seven to eight days.
Hence, people should consult a doctor if the fever continues for more days or if they detect some rashes in the body.
