SNEH organises program on role of Press & Restorative Justice
Bhubaneswar (19/11/2024): The Society for Nature, Education, and Health (SNEH) organised a program on role of the Press & Restorative Justice on Tuesday at SAMPRITI, the organisation's peace training-cum-resource and research center in Bhubaneswar, on the occasion of Restorative Justice Week 2024.
The program was inaugurated by SNEH’s President, Subarna Ghosh.
About 25 members of media fraternity attended the program.
Subas Chandra Panda, the Advisor of the organization, along with the project staff, briefed the media on SNEH's peace-building work, ongoing and future initiatives, and sensitized them on the concept of Restorative Justice (RJ).
SNEH highlighted the positive achievements made during the intervention in 8 habitations of the Saliasahi slum in Bhubaneswar.
The women peace builders of the slum are capacitated through several trainings on RJ to address and resolve various conflict issues in the community.
This has resulted in the reduction in the number of criminal cases filed in the local police station.
This practice of Restorative Justice in the target area in the slum has also helped in reducing recidivism and helped both the victims and the offenders reintegrate in the community.
In this program SNEH also showcased the adaptability of Restorative Justice in addressing contemporary challenges, solidifying SNEH's commitment towards the integration of this unique and comprehensive justice delivery within the present system.
The program, supported by the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), Kolkata, aimed to raise awareness among members of the media fraternity about the uniqueness and benefits of Restorative Justice.
