XIM UNIVERSITY'S SGPA ORGANIZES POLICY SEMINAR ON PUBLIC BUREAUCRACY & POLICE DISCRETION
Bhubaneswar(13/03/2024): The School of Governance and Public Affairs (SGPA), XIM University in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Metropolitan Management Association (BMMA) organized a thought-stimulating Policy Seminar on Public Bureaucracy and Police Discretion in India on Wednesday.
Many members from BMMA, including the CEO and Working President Syed Maqbool Ali graced the occasion.
This event brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss the challenges and opportunities in policing within the Indian bureaucratic system.
The event started with the lighting of the lamp by the guests of the day.
Prof.Johny Arokiaraj, Professor, SGPA gave the welcome address.
Father S.Anthony Raj delivered the inaugural address, setting the seminar's objectives and highlighting the significance of understanding the dynamics between public bureaucracy and police discretion in India.
Dr.Satyajit Mohanty, IPS (Retd.) and Adjunct Professor at National Law University, Odisha delivered a special address on his recent book titled "Police Discretion in India: Legal and Extralegal Factors." Dr.Mohanty's insightful talk explored the various factors influencing police discretion in India and underscored the crucial need for accountability within the law enforcement sector.
His tenure as a Civil Servant equipped him with firsthand knowledge of navigating the bureaucratic landscape, allowing him to offer perspectives on enhancing the synergy between public administration and policing in India. He stressed on the need for a robust accountable mechanism in police. The talk was followed by an engaging panel discussion featuring esteemed panellists: Sanjib Ch Hota, IAS (Retd.); Dr.Satyajit Mohanty, IPS (Retd.); and Father S.Antony Raj S.J., Registrar of XIM University.
Dialogues fostered among stakeholders during the panel discussion stimulated critical thinking and collaboration, enriching the discourse with diverse perspectives and insights. The panel was followed with an interactive question and answer session, providing attendees with the opportunity to further explore key themes and exchange ideas with the panellists.
There was also a cultural performance by students of the School of Governance and Public Affairs, adding a vibrant and enriching dimension to the event, showcasing talents within the academic community.
