10 Maoists lay down arms in Kandhamal

Phulbani(By Abhishek Mohanty): In a major blow to Naxal insurgency, ten Maoists surrendered before police at the Reserve Police Ground in Phulbani under Kandhamal district of Odisha on Wednesday.

The surrender took place in the presence of Anti-Naxal Operations ADG Sanjeeb Panda and IGP Niti Shekhar.

Officials said the surrendered cadres included seven women and three men.
Police sources added that one of the cadres was a Special Zonal Committee member.

The group also comprised one Divisional Committee member and two Area Committee members, suggesting the presence of several mid-level leaders in the Maoist organisation.
The development is expected to boost ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the region.
