Balasore, 15/07 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): Among all the organizations working in the field of blood collection, the Balasore Blood Donors’ Association continues to stand out visibly. Blood donors, as stated by the guests at the Annual Convention held at Veniya Paradise Kalyan Mandap in Balasore town, are the true representatives of God. They affirmed that blood donation is a divine act, blessed by the Almighty.
While science has advanced immensely, it has yet to create an artificial blood factory. Regardless of one’s stature, every individual must depend on someone else for blood. This, they noted, is God’s own way of humbling human ego. Without blood, treatment becomes impossible.
The programme was presided over by the Association’s President, Kamal Chakrabarty. Chief guest Soumyaranjan Patnaik, Chairman of Sambad, emphasized that blood donors must be seen as God’s messengers. He urged mothers not to stop their children from donating blood but instead encourage them. He explained how a single unit of donated blood can bring triple happiness. He further remarked that the blood donation mission would only be complete the day a Muslim from Balasore donates blood to save the life of a Daitapati’s child in Puri. He also appealed for equal enthusiasm in voting, alongside blood donation.
MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, attending as a distinguished guest, stated that there is no substitute for blood and called blood donation a form of penance. Government Chief Whip and Remuna MLA Govind Chandra Das stressed that no one should die due to lack of blood and appreciated the role of Balasore donors in the tragic Bahanaga train accident. Nilgiri MLA Santosh Khatua explained the health benefits of blood donation. Jaleswar MLA Ashwini Kumar Patra declared that a true blood relative is one who donates to save lives.
Basta MLA Subashini Jena emphasized the need to create more new donors along with engaging the existing ones. Bhogarai MLA Gautam Buddha Das praised Sambad-Ama Odisha for realizing the vision of a mass blood donation campaign, which was later adopted as the Jeevan Bindu campaign by the state government. He credited Soumyaranjan Patnaik for this success. Das also demanded the establishment of a blood bank at Fakir Mohan Medical College & Hospital in Balasore and called for active efforts toward this goal.
Dr. Basanta Kumar Upadhyay from the District Blood Centre also addressed the gathering.
On this occasion, several organizations that contributed significantly in the field of blood donation were felicitated. Padmalochan Dutta donated ₹50,000 to the Association. Gouranga Panigrahi conducted the stage proceedings, while Mr. Chakrabarty delivered the welcome address. Dr. Kumar Gopal introduced the guests. General Secretary Er. Hrushikesh Sahu presented the annual report. The souvenir of the association was unveiled by the guests during the event.
Manoranjan Das and Debashis Pani coordinated the awards and felicitation segment, and Mr. Das offered the vote of thanks. The convention was jointly conducted by the Association's Vice President Subrat Kumar Rana, Lakshmidhar Barik, Somik Babu, Sumanta Kumar Jena, and other key members of the organization.
