District-Level Jayadeva Jayanti Celebrated in Balasore

Balasore, 30/04 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): With the support of the Balasore District Administration and the District Culture Department, the district-level Jayadeva Jayanti was celebrated with reverence on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya at 9:30 AM in the Sadbhavana Hall, Balasore. The event honored the legendary poet Sri Jayadeva, the creator of the Gita Govinda.
Gracing the celebration as Chief Guest was Sri Sudhakar Nayak, Additional District Magistrate (General) of Balasore, while Dr. Madhusmita Samantaray, Additional Executive Officer of the District Council, attended as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries paid floral tribute to Sri Jayadeva’s portrait, offering heartfelt homage.
The cultural segment featured a musical presentation based on Jayadeva’s compositions, performed by artists from Sai Nrutya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Sri Nayak described Sri Jayadeva as a great devotional poet and remarked that his immortal creation Gita Govinda would remain timeless in the world of literature. He emphasized that Jayadeva is a source of pride and glory for Odisha, and his enduring work enriches our culture and heritage.
Dr. Samantaray further highlighted how Jayadeva’s timeless poetry embodies the spirit of Odisha's cultural tradition. Renowned poet and speaker Sri Sarbeshwar Das, as a guest speaker, shed light on the poet’s life and eloquently described how the lyrical beauty of Gita Govinda captivates both listeners and readers.
Poet Sri Prashanta Das, as the keynote speaker, eloquently explained how Jayadeva depicted the pure and eternal love and devotion between Radha and Krishna in Gita Govinda, ultimately surrendering himself at the lotus feet of Lord Jagannath. He expressed that Jayadeva’s creation would remain eternal and celebrated for generations.
The event was attended by various departmental officials, dignitaries, and artists. The proceedings were smoothly conducted and concluded with a vote of thanks by District Culture Officer Manaswini Rout.
