Ecofriendly Holi celebrated at Star Club Apartment

Bhubaneswar(15/03/2025): Holi, the festival of colours, celebrated today at Star Club Apartment, Patia, Bhubaneswar in a much more unique way.

The residents of the Apartment have been playing eco-friendly Holi by making colours from different flowers, leaves, seeds, and roots by themselves.

The women folk of the apartment motivated by Priyadarsini Das, popularly known as the Green Queen of Odisha , prepared the colours for almost a week, preceding Holi Day.

They collect Heena leaf, raw turmeric, beet root, Neem leaf, mango leaf, bela leaf, Palas flower, marigold flower, Aparajita, hibiscus flower, anato seeds (kumkum), pomegranate rind, Aal powder, etc.

The women members across the age group like Meena Sahu, Nandita Biswal, Tandra Sahu, Bersa Panda, Suchismita Padhy, Usha Manjari Sahu, Ruby, Jinu Panda, Reshma, Snigdha Padhi, Sonali, Sony, Sadasha Das, Subhadra, Trisha along with Priyadarsini have come together to celebrate this eco-friendly Holi.

"Every bit counts; when the world is looking for solutions to fight climate change, the women members of our Apartment are sending this big message, which can be adopted by everyone," said Priyadarsini.

Meena Sahu, a senior member of the apartment, said, "The colours are hundred per cent natural as we have only prepared, and these are toxic free.

People of every age group can use it." Many of the colours are in powder form, and many are prepared as paste, and it becomes easier for us to apply on each other, shared Tandra Sahu.

The celebration with natural colours, along with traditional sweets, lassi, music, and dance, adds a lot of fun for everyone, expressed Barsa Panda.

While preparing the colours, we also enjoy learning how to mix colours to make new colours, and our experiment has no ending, said Suchismita Padhy.

The Holi celebration at Star Club Apartment is unique as we apply our own colours that bring a lot of health benefits to us and are environment friendly, said another woman, Nandita Biswal.

The message from these women members of the Apartment is clear and loud.

We can always take care of our planet and environment without compromising on the celebration of our festivals and fun.

The natural colours are not only eco-friendly, but also toxic free with a lot of health benefits.

It does not require much water or detergent to wash your body post Holi, mentioned Priyadarsini.

The demand for natural colours is high in demand, but we do not need to look for markets.

We can make our own colours from the biomass available in our surroundings, said one of the senior most members of the apartment, Mrs.Panda.
