Fakir Mohan Sahitya Parishad Holds Condolence Meeting on the Demise of Eminent Litterateur Dr Banshidhar Choudhury
Balasore, Dec 26 (Krushna Kumar Mohanty): The Fakir Mohan Sahitya Parishad organised a condolence meeting to mourn the demise of eminent litterateur Dr Banshidhar Choudhury, who passed away on December 9 at around 4.20 am.
Dr Choudhury was a former Joint Secretary and Secretary of the Fakir Mohan Sahitya Parishad. A versatile personality, he was a dedicated teacher, poet, essayist, researcher, committed organiser, and a refined, gentle, and principled individual. His passing has left a deep void in the literary and intellectual circles of the region.
The condolence meeting was jointly conducted by Parishad President Dr Subas Chandra Patra and Secretary Dr Ratnakar Singh. Friends, relatives, intellectuals, and fellow writers who admired and loved Dr Choudhury attended the meeting and offered tearful tributes, praying for the peace of his departed soul.
Speaking first on the basis of seniority, Padmalochan Dutta expressed deep sorrow and said that society had lost a truly good human being. Anasuya Nayak remarked that Fakir Mohan’s land had lost a valuable writer with Dr Choudhury’s demise. In his condolence message, Dr Khitiswar Das described him as a strong-willed, discerning individual who successfully discharged responsibilities as a teacher and head of an institution. Vice-President Dinabandhu Lenka remembered the late Choudhury as humble, polite, and outspoken.
Senior member Aswini Satapathy observed that a person who belongs to the soil remains immortal even after death. Former President Dr Harischandra Behera recalled that during his tenure as President, Dr Choudhury served as Secretary, and earlier as Joint Secretary. He expressed profound grief over Choudhury’s untimely departure. Dr Sirish Chandra Jena said he was deeply influenced by Choudhury’s warm and graceful personality.
Close friend and fiction writer Uday Narayan Das, a classmate of the late Choudhury, recalled receiving inspiration in writing from him. He became emotional while reading aloud a chapter from his book Satabdi Purusha, where Dr Choudhury was compared with Rabindra Mohan Das. Another close friend, Dr Radharanjan Pattnaik, said with emotion, “I have never shed tears at condolence meetings, but today my tears refuse to listen to me. It feels as if my tears are repeatedly washing his poems. I still cannot believe that the man who moved around me has gone forever.”
The condolence meeting was attended by Vice-President Anjali Panda, Sachindra Kar, Shyam Babu, Kalikingar Das, Smritilekha De, Diptirekha Das, Joint Secretary Kalyani Nanda, Joint Secretary Rajesh Giri, former Joint Secretary Chandransu Banerjee, advocate Dipak Das, Karunakara So, Vidyadhara Das, and many other intellectuals, writers, and admirers of Dr Choudhury. All offered floral tributes and prayed that wherever he may be, he rests in peace and serenity.
