FOUR STAFF OF CENTRAL RED CROSS BLOOD BANK SUSPENDED OVER WRONG BLOOD TRANSFUSION IN CUTTACK
Cuttack(04/09/2023): Four staff of the Central Red Cross Blood Bank were suspended for allegedly transfusing wrong blood to a patient at a private hospital in Cuttack. The patient identified as Bibhuti Bhusan Jena of Jhola Sahi in Cuttack district was admitted to the hospital after a fall in his haemoglobin count.
After doctor's advice, his family members brought 'A' positive blood unit from the Central Red Cross Blood Bank.
Within minutes of blood transfusion, the health condition of the patient started deteriorating.
Upon investigation of the blood at a private lab, it was found that the blood unit brought from the blood bank was 'B' positive instead of 'A' positive as per the requirement of the patient. The Director of the blood bank said that the matter will be investigated only after receiving a report from the doctor treating the patient.
