Freedom fighters imprisoned during Emergency Period to get pension

Bhubaneswar(13/01/2025): The Odisha government has announced a monthly pension of Rs 20,000 for freedom fighters who were imprisoned during the Emergency period in India, which lasted from June 5, 1975, to March 21, 1977.
This pension will be provided to those who were jailed under laws like MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act), DIR (Defence of India Rules), and DISIR (Defence and Internal Security of India Rules). Medical expenses will be covered by the state government. Freedom fighters who were imprisoned during the Emergency period and are alive as of January 1, 2025 will get the benefits. This initiative aims to recognize and honour the sacrifices of those who fought for the country's freedom and were imprisoned during the Emergency period.
