INAUGURATION OF BANDHU SHRAMIK SEVA KENDRA IN NETTOOR, A MILESTONE FOR MIGRANT WORKERS' WELFARE
Bhubaneswar(16/02/2024): A new chapter in migrant workers' welfare unfolded as the inauguration ceremony of the Bandhu Shramik Seva Kendra (BSSK) took place in Nettoor, Ernakulam district, Kerala.
The BSSK, initiated by the Centre for Migration and Inclusive Development (CMID), aims to serve as a vital support and assistance hub for the significant population of migrants, particularly from Odisha, especially Ganjam, in the region. Operating from Sunday to Friday, the BSSK is designed to comprehensively address the social security needs and grievances of migrant workers under one roof.
The establishment is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing the overall well-being and support structure for migrant communities in the area. In a strategic collaboration, CMID's BSSK will partner with Gram Vikas' Shramik Bandhu Seva Kendras (SBSK) in Odisha.
This partnership ensures a seamless grievance resolution process through the corridor approach, leveraging the strengths of both organizations to maximize the impact on migrant welfare. As an integral part of Gram Vikas' Safe and Dignified Migration Programme, the organization provides essential support at the source sites.
Gram Vikas operates facilitation and resource centers at the source (SBSKs) to assist prospective migrants and their families in making informed choices about opportunities, services, and entitlements. The inauguration ceremony, graced by Liby Johnson, Executive Director of Gram Vikas, witnessed the presence of CMID's co-founders, Dr.
Benoy Peter and Dr.
Baishali Goswami.
The event marked a significant milestone in the collective efforts towards ensuring the well-being and dignity of migrant workers. The Bandhu Shramik Seva Kendra in Nettoor stands as a testament to the commitment of CMID and Gram Vikas to create a positive impact on the lives of migrant workers, fostering a sense of security, support, and dignity.
The center is poised to become a beacon of hope and assistance for the migrant community in the Ernakulam district and beyond.
