Indigenous Yatra 2024: Unlocking the Power of Local Wisdom

Bhubaneswar(10/12/2024): On International Human Rights Day, Atmashakti Trust, in collaboration with the National Consortium to Combat Malnutrition (NCCM) and 50 grassroots organizations, launched the Indigenous Yatra 2024.
This transformative journey spans 11 states—Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh, home to a significant tribal population.
This initiative aims to honour and preserve the rich cultural and traditional knowledge of India’s Indigenous communities. The Yatra is a vibrant journey celebrating the timeless wisdom of India’s Indigenous communities.
It champions knowledge transfer, sustainable agriculture, and empowered governance through frameworks like the PESA Act.
By blending traditional practices in health, nutrition, and cultural resilience with modern solutions, it bridges ancient heritage with present needs.
This initiative goes global, creating a dynamic platform to connect India’s ancestral knowledge with international experts—uniting researchers, policymakers, and healthcare professionals in a shared mission to honor and integrate these invaluable traditions. Key objectives include creating a digital repository of traditions, promoting traditional diets through traditional food, health camp and advocating for inclusive policies to integrate Indigenous knowledge into development strategies.
Unlocking the Local Wisdom involves creating a digital repository to document Indigenous traditions, arts, and sustainable farming practices.
At the same time, promoting traditional diets through hands-on learning is crucial for empowering communities with improved nutrition practices.
Strengthening governance by advocating for policies that integrate Indigenous knowledge into development frameworks is the need of the hour to ensure sustainable progress and resilience within these communities.
