Insects found in BJB hostel food, students protest over hygiene lapses

Bhubaneswar(By Abhishek Mohanty): Tension prevailed at BJB College on Friday after students raised serious concerns over the quality and hygiene of food served in the college hostel. The situation escalated following repeated complaints of insects being found in hostel meals, which students alleged were ignored by the authorities.

Plus 2 girl students residing in the hostel expressed strong dissatisfaction, stating that they had informed the hostel superintendent multiple times about the issue. However, they claimed no effective or permanent steps were taken to address the problem, forcing them to intensify their protest.

With the issue persisting, the aggrieved students submitted a formal complaint to the college principal, warning that the poor food quality posed a serious health risk. They demanded immediate action to ensure hygienic, safe, and nutritious food for hostel residents.

Sources said that after receiving the complaint, the college principal held discussions with the hostel superintendent and the food supplier. Both were instructed to take immediate corrective measures and ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
