International Yoga Day Celebrated at Fakir Mohan University

Fakir Mohan University observed International Yoga Day 2025 with solemnity and enthusiasm at its Nuapadhi campus, under the guidance and leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Sanskrit and NSS, with support from the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi.
A special yoga training session was conducted for faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students of the university. The event witnessed the presence of eminent guests including Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mishra, former Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University, as the chief guest, and Prof. Jagat Ram Bhattacharya, former professor of Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, as the lead yoga instructor. They imparted valuable insights into the practice and benefits of yoga and meditation.

The theme for this year's celebration—"Yoga for One Earth, One Health: Yoga Sangam"—was also highlighted through a day-long seminar. Presiding over the session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tripathy emphasised the importance of yoga in student life, asserting that regular yoga practice enhances focus and cultivates a balanced and prosperous life.
Prof. Bhaskar Behera, Chairperson of the Postgraduate Council, delivered the welcome address. Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mishra presented a profound lecture on “The Importance of Yoga in the Light of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita”, while Prof. Jagat Ram Bhattacharya spoke on “The Connection Between Jainism and the Indian Yoga Tradition.” Prof. Sudhanshu Kumar Sharangi, Sanskrit Professor from Punjab University, Hoshiarpur, presented a scholarly talk on “Proven Yogic Concepts in Major Yoga Upanishads.”
Dr. Amulya Kumar Acharya, NSS Program Coordinator, conducted the yoga training session. Prof. Debashis Patra moderated the seminar proceedings. Dr. Pratima Pradhan, NSS Program Officer, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the enthusiastic participation and collective effort of all members of the university community that made the event a grand success.
